SlovakFest 2009
This
year's Mahoning Valley SlovakFest will take place on August 16th, 2009
at St. Matthias Church on the South Side in beautiful Youngstown, Ohio.

Board Member Moves to Bratislava
Board
Memebr Brian Petruska and his wife, Kara, left for Bratislava in August
where Brian will be teaching science in the secondary school of Quality
Schools International. Brian and his father, Youngstown Sister Cities
Treasurer Bob Petruska, joined other members of the family to visit
Eastern Slovakia several years ago where they met their Slovak
relatives for the first time.
2007 Shipments to Slovakia
Board member Jim
Bench, wife Kay, and grandchildren Matthew and Kayla, packaged nine
boxes of clothes purchased by the Bench family of Saints Cyril and
Methodius Elementary School in Spišská Nová Ves.
The Youngstown Sister Cities
Program piad the shipping costs. Clothing included jeans, dresses,
infant clothing, gloves, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and baseball caps with
various university logos.
An additional
fourteen boxes of clothes were shipped for distribution to the Center
for Community Planning, a non-profit group in Levoca. The
transportation costs were also paid bythe Youngstown Sister Cities
Program.
2006 Shipments to Slovakia
The Youngstown
- Spišská Nová Ves Sister Cities Program sent 350
good-as-new baseballs to the Kosice Seals Baseball Team in care of Mike
Romano, CEO, of Harsco Steel in Slovakia. Two personal computers have
been graciously donated by individuals and will be shipped in early May
to Slovakia.
